Silver amalgam fillings are used to repair teeth affected by cracks, fractures, and decay. After the decayed or affected part of the tooth is removed, it is filled with an amalgam filling.
Reasons for an amalgam filling:
- Broken or cracked tooth
- Decayed tooth
- Worn tooth
What is the procedure for getting an amalgam filling?
You can get an amalgam filling in one appointment. Dr Yash will numb your tooth and remove decay as necessary. The remaining space will be thoroughly cleaned and prepared before he places the filling. If the decay was close to the tooth’s nerve, a special medication is placed in the tooth for added protection. Then the silver filling will be placed, shaped and polished. Your tooth will be restored to its original shape and function.
It is common to experience sensitivity to hot or cold after you first get a silver filling. However this will go away after the tooth gets used to the new filling. Silver fillings are very durable and will last for many years.
Dr Yash will give post-care instructions after you get a filling. Practicing good oral hygiene, good eating habits, and regular visits to the dentist will add to the life of your new fillings.
