A composite filling is a tooth-colored filling and is used to repair a tooth that is decayed, cracked, or fractured. The affected part of the tooth is removed and then the tooth is filled with the composite filling. Since composite fillings are matched to the color of your existing teeth they are perfectly suited for use in front teeth or in more visible areas of the mouth. They are very durable and will last a long time.
Reasons for composite fillings:
- Decayed teeth
- Chipped, cracked, or broken teeth
- Worn teeth
- To close space between two teeth
What is the procedure for getting a composite filling?
You can get a composite filling in one appointment. Dr Yash will numb your tooth and remove decay as necessary. The remaining space will be thoroughly cleaned and prepared before he places the filling. If the decay was close to the tooth’s nerve, a special medication is placed in the tooth for added protection. Then the composite filling will be placed, shaped and polished. Your tooth will be restored to its original shape and function.
It is common to experience sensitivity to hot or cold after you first get a composite filling. However this will go away after the tooth gets used to the new filling.
Dr Yash will give post-care instructions after you get a filling. Practicing good oral hygiene, good eating habits, and regular visits to the dentist will add to the life of your new filling.
