Tooth Crowns

A crown is a covering for a tooth; it encases the entire tooth surface and restores it to its original size and shape. Crowns are needed to strengthen and protect a tooth that cannot be restored with a filling. They are very durable and will last for many years. Porcelain crowns are constructed to match the color, shape, and size of your teeth to create a very natural appearance.

What is the procedure for getting a crown?

Getting a crown generally requires two appointments.
At the first appointment Dr Yash will take several molds or impressions that will be used to create a custom crown. The mold will also be used to create a temporary crown which you will wear until your new crown is produced by a dental laboratory. This takes approximately two weeks. At this appointment Dr Yash will also prepare the tooth by removing decay and shaping it so that the crown will fit properly. Then the temporary crown will be positioned and attached with temporary cement. Your bite will be checked as well.

At the second appointment Dr Yash will remove the temporary crown, clean the tooth, and place the new permanent crown making sure that the bite and spacing are perfect.  Dr Yash will give you care instructions and will check your crown at every six-month visit.
